We work hard so that dogs and cats can get the medical care they need. We love pets and value the joy they bring in our lives. So it's no surprise that our pets can help influence or make our work day better. In this part of our Working at Trupanion series, we sat down with Trupanion's payroll specialist, Taylor Roberts, to learn more about what it's like to work remotely in Seattle for a leader in the pet industry.

Current role in Trupanion
I am currently Trupanion's payroll specialist and have been in this role for over two years.
How did your career journey in Trupanion begin?
I joined Trupanion in June 2014 within a week of graduating with a bachelor's degree in actuarial science from Central Washington University and moving back to Seattl e. I started in the claims department and moved to finance just over two years ago.
What do you like most about working remotely at Trupanion?
What I love most about working remotely is not having to deal with commuting. I live in Queen Anne so it is not that far but it has not been quite nice to deal with it, especially since we have such short days and not so good weather in the fall and winter. Being able to sleep a little later without having to drive in or take a bus has been fantastic.
What do you like most about your role?
I guess what I love most about my current role is how much improvement pay as a whole has seen in recent years. It was for a long time just a one-man team but now we are three who do our best to do everything as efficiently as possible.
What's your favorite part?
Lately, my favorite part of the day because it's only 8 hours in daylight is a dinner walk with Ryder. I'm lucky I'm only a 15-20 minute walk to some of the best views Seattle has to offer such as Kerry Park and a couple of lesser known views. Being able to take a break and enjoy the daylight is huge for my mental and physical health.
What is it like to work in Trupanion's finance team?
It's a great team. Of course, everyone works so hard and does such good things, but we all like to take moments to laugh and have fun. We have a full group chat in Teams and we crack each other up and send photo updates of our pets all the time. They are a big bunch of people that I respect.
How does your pet help you all day long?
Ryder, my nine year old Golden Retriever is the biggest goofball. He often reminds me that I do not pay enough attention to him throughout the day for some playing time, potty breaks or brisk walks. Without him, I would probably be glued to my computer without any breaks. He makes me laugh all the time and is really my uncertified therapy dog.
What do you appreciate most about the work you do?
I appreciate that with my commitment and hard work I can get everyone paid on time and accurately, and keep everyone happy and helping pets in multiple countries.
