Work from home and help animals in the pet. health industry
Current role at Trupanion
How did your career journey in Trupanion begin?
I started in the claims department in 2016 as a computer assistant where I opened damages and looked at incoming medical records. sorted properly. After about two years in that role, I joined the Analytics team, where I got to use my degree in quantitative analysis and my knowledge that I gained in the claims department to investigate our claims and other aspects of the veterinary industry. I'm coming up on my fifth birthday in Trupanion later this year!
What do you think about working remotely at Trupanion?
I love that I have been able to adapt my work surface to make my ideal work environment. I really liked our office (especially office dogs and cats!), But as with any office, there were many distractions. Working from home allows me to be more productive because I can put my head down and focus. I also love the fact that I have not had to wear a real pair of pants at work in almost a year.
What do you love most about your role?
I love that every day I learn something new. My job as a data analyst means that I have to ask many questions and dig deep to find the answers with the ultimate goal of helping pets live healthier and better lives.
What is an ideal day for you?
Now that I work from home, I usually roll out of bed about five minutes before I start work. My mornings usually consist of meetings, checking in with my team and the teams I support. Then I take a short walk with my Golden Retriever, FRANKIE, at lunchtime to get some fresh air. After lunch, my focused work time is where I can dig deep into my projects.
What is your favorite part of your work day?
My favorite part of my day is when I have worked hard on a problem and suddenly everything comes together and it just works * *. It's so satisfying after struggling with the code all day. I never get tired of that feeling.
What is it like to work in the Trupanion analysis team?
My team is so good. I have so much respect for everyone, they are all supportive and cooperative and brilliant in what they do. We hold a regular "show and tell" where we share the cool things we have worked on or a new skill that the rest of the team would be interested in.
It's a great way to keep the team connected, especially since we all work remotely. We also make sure to take our time for fun, whether it's virtual happy hours or an activity like a virtual escape room, which we do in a few weeks.
What do you appreciate most about the work you do?
I love that the work I do allows dogs and cats to live their healthiest and happiest lives. As a service manager, I know myself how obvious it can be.
In turn, I can get my lifeline to the best possible veterinary care, regardless of cost. Above all, it is invaluable to know that I can help support it for all our members.
Furthermore, I am proud to be part of Trupanion's new Diversity, Capital and Inclusion Council, which was formed last year after the Black Lives Matter movement highlighted the need for systemic change in our society.
What is one thing you want people to know about working at Trupanion?
Everyone here LOVES pets. This foundation creates a strong common foundation and it is so fantastic to come to work every day united around a mission that we all deeply believe in. with data or finding solutions during the day, it always helps to know that you are helping cats and dogs get medical care when they need it most.
Thank you Malia for sharing your team member's experience!
