Wood floor makers fined for intentional violations



A small hardwood flooring manufacturer in New York was ordered to pay more than $ 160,000 for a number of intentional violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

The inspector found that six of the company's workers had been exposed to continuous noise beyond acceptable levels and that the company still lacked a hazard communication program. The inspector found an emergency exit bolted to death and without illuminated signage, air compressed air guns at three times p.s.i. recommended for cleaning, unattended cut saws, a circuit board with exciting openings, no locking / tagout procedures and lack of training for workers who maintain saws and other cutting machines.

The Commission upheld the court's decision and assessed the company with more than $ 166,000 for mostly intentional violations. The Commission found that the company's lack of a hearing aid program constituted a deliberate, repeated and serious breach that deserved the estimated penalty of $ 51,734 and also confirmed the penalties of more than $ 40,000 for the lack of a lockout / tagout program and the lack of proper training.
