The state of Washington is following California's leadership by developing safety and health rules in the workplace regarding smoke fires, the state Department of Labor & Industries announced Wednesday.
The department submitted an official notice, known as CR-101, to begin
The proposed regulation is expected to address the identification of harmful exposure to wildfire, training and instruction on the hazard and include controls for the management of harmful smoke exposure.
In July 2019, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health issued a temporary emergency for handling wildfires. The regulation requires employers affected by wildfire smoke to check the air quality index where workers are at the beginning of each shift and take measures to mitigate exposure by moving workers to enclosed buildings or locations where the air quality index is 1
