Virginia allows assessment and sets new standards for appraisers and judges Property Insurance Law Team Blog



Virginia’s governor approved legislation that will take effect on July 1, 2022 and set standards for assessments and judges. The Insurance Appraisal and Umpire Association (IAUA) sent me the following legislation:

The requirements for previous residence were clearly unconstitutional. The summary of the effect of the legislation suggests that the reason for the change was to make Virginia’s legislation constitutional.

The qualifications to be a valuer and a judge vary considerably from state to state. For example, a few states allow valuers to have a contingency fee agreement while the vast majority do not.
