People who commit insurance fraud as a profession do so because it is easy. It requires no capital investment. The risk is low and the profits are high.

The ease with which large sums of money can be earned on insurance fraud removes any moral doubt that may prevent the perpetrator from committing the crime.

The temptation to do everything outside the law was the case of the Karamazov brothers. The brothers had escaped from prison in the former Soviet Union by immigrating to the United States. In their hometown of Volgagrad, they were well known by the local police. The brothers had carried out a wave of crime in the city since they were ten years old. They were involved in burglary, armed robbery, smuggling, drug trafficking and prostitution.

To avoid arrest and a long sentence in a Siberian Gulag, the brothers invented a Jewish mother. They were then entitled to leave as victims of religious persecution. Their application for a visa to the United States as an applicant for religious freedom was immediately accepted. The “Save the Soviet Jews” organization, which knew nothing about its criminal background, financed their trip to the United States.

Upon arrival in the United States, they met acquaintances from the Soviet criminal class who had also fled to the United States. They were told that the police were quite effective in catching and prosecuting strong armed criminals, but that they did not care about fraud perpetrators.

The chance that insurance companies will ever get back any of the $ 80,000,000 to $ 2.3 billion they admit they stole is minimal. Whatever remains of the assets, they took with them to Mother Russia and protected in banks in the Cayman Islands and Switzerland.

For the Karamazov brothers, the extent of their greed was their downfall.

Crimes were paid very well for three years and now they are paying for their crime in the federal prison with the knowledge that when they are released they will still be rich because the US government could not track their assets.

This case proved that insurance fraud is easy. Even an immigrant with little or no knowledge of medicine or insurance could steal billions of dollars from US insurance companies and government-funded insurance programs. They are resting in a comfortable prison, but when they are released and deported, they will be able to live as oligarchs on what they stole from insurance companies and the US government.
