Tips for safe driving during the winter

We have already seen some snow, after last year we all hope for a milder winter.

I do not know if that is the case or not this year. I have heard if there are many acorns and cones in the fall, that means we are looking for a tough winter. Soon we will find out if it will be a mild or rough winter.

Are you prepared for winter driving?

Remember that there are 3 Ps with safe winter driving: PREPARE, PROTECT, PREVENT. PREPARE

Have your car ready by check your battery, your tires and even the windscreen wipers, replace if necessary. Make sure that you check the antifreeze and do not fill any freezing liquid in the washing container. Keep your windows free; make sure you also brush the snow and ice from the top of your car.

What to keep in your car: flashlights, jumper cables, shovel, snow brush and ice scraper. You may also want to add sand, litter, or even floor mats to get stuck in ice or snow; it may give you enough leverage to move again.

Allow plenty of time to get home and leave early if the weather is choppy.

Plan your route and let others know which route you will take.

If you are stopped or stopped, stop in your car, put light manufacturers on the antenna. If you drive your car to stay warm, make sure the exhaust pipe is ready, and drive it just enough to warm up.

Know what your brakes will do. Do you have anti-lock brakes? In this case, step on the brake and keep your foot on it. If you have non-locking brakes, you want to inflate your brakes.

PROTECTION

Tighten up! Seat belts save lives. Make sure the children are all fastened correctly.

Make sure you have a hat, gloves, scarf and boots in your car.

It can not hurt that you have a blanket in the car as well.

PREVENTION

Do not drink or drive.

Stop distances take longer on snow-covered surfaces, the same as water-covered ice and ice. Leave a safe distance from the car in front of you.

Keep your eyes open for people walking on the street or cars entering or backing up from high snow banks.

Slow down, better to get there safely and in one piece.

Avoid fatigue if you drive long distances, get plenty of rest before your trip and stop every two to three hours for a break.

Please be safe when driving around in winter. We already know that the roads have many potholes and dips everywhere and when they are covered in snow it becomes difficult to see them.
