The report provides advice on measures to protect primary and lower secondary schools from cyber threats

The US Department of Education should take further steps to protect primary and secondary schools from cyber threats, said the Government Accountability Office in a report released on Friday.

"These threats may be motivated by the promise of financial gain from malware attacks, by the desire to steal data, or simply by causing disruption of K-12 classes," the report said.

The report recommends that the Minister of Education initiate a meeting with the Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to determine how to update its sector-specific plan for the education sector.

A related recommendation is that the Minister of Education, in consultation with the Director of CISA, decide whether sub-sector-specific guidance is needed.

T. The Ministry of Education agrees with the recommendations, the report said.
