State to implement ODG drug form on July 1

Kentucky will be the latest state to implement the officially injured workers' disability form, according to a statement made Monday by the Kentucky Labor Cabinet, Department of Workers Claims.

ODG was developed by Austin, Texas-based MCG Health LLC and is the most common form used across the states – more than a dozen have implemented the evidence-based drug list of the company.

The adoption of ODG follows Kentucky's passage of HB 2 in 2018 as a mandate for a pharmaceutical form for employee compensation. ODG, like most forms, puts drugs into two categories: drugs that are free to prescribe and those who need prior authorization. Most opioids will require prior authorization by ODG.

The form comes into force on July 1

for workers injured on January 1 or later. For claims where the claim date was before 2019, the form will enter into force on July 1 for a recipe that is not a replenishment and on January 1, 2020, for a replenishment form for a drug originally prescribed before July 1, 2019 according to the announcement.
