Safe Construction Worksite Inspections to Increase-Include OSHA Costs for Home Insurance Calculations | Property Insurance Coverage Law Blog

An entrepreneur sent me a note from the National Roofing Contractors Association, suggesting that the Trump administration is increasing the workforce of security inspectors and whistleblower investigators in building safety. The note was based on an article, Work Secretary: OSHA Workplace Inspections likely to increase as stated:

• In a written report to the Chamber Work, Health and Medical, Education and Related Subcommittee Acosta said OSHA employed 76 new inspectors during the 2018 budget and that it would be anywhere from one year to three years before they will be ready to do field inspections on their own. Despite this, he told subcommittee members that OSHA had carried out 32,000 inspections every year in 2017 and 2018, an increase from 2016 figures.

• President Donald Trump said he was asking $ 557 million for OSHA in the budget request for his fiscal year 2020, an increase over last year, which would pay for additional staff, including 30 additional compliance officers and five more whistleblower investigators.

The article notes that a residential contractor in Jacksonville has recently been fined over one million dollars for breach of workplace security. Some insurance adjustments have the wrong impression that labor laws on building safety laws and costs do not apply to housing construction.

I have written a number of articles that emphasize the need for insurance tax estimates to include the cost of the cost of OSHA compliance and security:
