(Reuters) – A cyber attack on the Russian technology giant Yandex's servers in August and September was the largest known distributed denial-of-service attack in the history of the Internet, the company said on Thursday.
The DDoS attack, in which hackers try to flood a network with unusually large amounts of data to paralyze it when it can no longer cope with the scale of requested data, began in August and reached record levels on September 5.
"Our experts managed to repel a record attack at almost 22 million requests per second. This is the largest known attack in the history of the Internet, says Yandex in a statement.
Yandex said it had seen RPS 5.2 million on August 7, RPS 6.5 million on August 9, RPS 9.6 million on August 8. 29, 1
