Lawyers for Dutch musician Mr. Probz, known for his 2013-14 hit “Waves,” said on Tuesday it has filed a claim for more than $9.66 million against Sony in Amsterdam for royalties the artist claims Sony fraudulently withheld, according to Reuters.
Mr. Probz, whose real name is Dennis Stehr, claims that Sony deducted administration and distribution fees from his royalties when they were sent through the company’s subsidiaries, in violation of his contract that specified they were to be determined when they were first received, according to the wire service.
Sony, which denied the allegations, issued this statement to Reuters: “We categorically dispute the allegations made and are reviewing the lawsuit.”;
Mr. Probz has approximately 5 million monthly listeners on Spotify and the radio edit remix of “Waves” with Robin Schulz has been streamed more than 800 million times. The “Waves” video has been viewed 500 million times on YouTube, according to the thread.
