A doctor in Southern California was sentenced to 14 months in prison for accepting nearly $ 800,000 in bribes and kickbacks for prescribing compounded drugs to injured workers, federal prosecutors said.
Dr. Amir Friedman pleaded guilty in October 2019 to a conspiracy to commit honest services by mail and fraud and to violate US travel laws. He was sentenced on Friday.
Prosecutors said the doctor conspired with New Age Pharmaceuticals and a marketer from August 2013 to May 2015.
The marketer gave pre-printed prescription drugs to the doctor and offered him kickbacks and bribes. for each recipe he wrote. New Age Pharmaceuticals in Beverly Hills distributed drugs and billed carriers.
The doctor acknowledged in his agreement that he was aware that the compound drugs he prescribed were much more expensive than their counterparts, the US law firm said in a statement. [1
