On Friday, the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Administration passed a temporary rule requiring employers to implement safety measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
The rule, which will enter into force on 16 November, will require employers to notify workers with coronavirus infections in the workplace and provide training for workers on how to reduce the risk. The temporary standard will also require employers to formally assess the risk of exposure, develop infection control plans and manage indoor air quality.
The rule also creates stricter COVID-19 protection measures for workers performing high-risk jobs, such as medical work workers providing direct patient care.
According to the temporary rule, employers must ensure a distance of six meters between all people through workflow / work activity design unless it can be shown that it is not possible for certain activities.

Finally, the rule will require employers to provide information and training to employees about COVID-19, notify employees within 24 hours of learning a work-related exposure, and monitor proper work distribution or return to work if an employee has been isolated or quarantined.
Oregon OSHA said in a statement that it will provide training resources to help employers understand and apply the new requirements and has made a COVID-19 risk poster available for display in both English and Spanish.
The rule is scheduled to apply until May 4, 2021, unless it is revised or repealed before that date.
