Ontario to review workplace security agency

The Ontario Government launches a review of its workplace safety and insurance committee.

The review, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2019, provides the government with new information on the governance of the board and how it is compared to best practices in the industry, said the Ontario government on Thursday in a statement. In particular, it will focus on three areas: financial supervision, which means the sustainability of the WSIB insurance fund and controls it. administration, which means the effectiveness of the current WSIB board and management structure. and efficiency, which means cost effectiveness and efficiency of the business, including comparisons with competing jurisdictions and private insurers.

But the review will not examine how the WSIB ̵

1; the independent agency administering compensation and no insurance for Ontario workplaces – decides on claims or benefit levels and will not look at individual claims, according to the government.

The review will be carried out by Linda Regner Dykeman, head of MidCorp Canada, a division of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE; and Sean Speer, Senior Public Policy Member of the University of Toronto's Monk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.

In September, the government announced that the premiums for Ontario employers would be reduced on average by almost 30% from January. 1, 2019, due to the elimination of WSIB's incapable responsibility.
