About David J Madara, CPCU, AAI, CRIS

David is a career insurance broker who has managed risks and placed insurance for corporate clients in many industries for over thirty years with a focus on the non-profit assignment-based sector. He works directly with customers to identify business risks, prioritize those who can track down the assignment and secure insurance coverage to protect the organization’s assets and assignments. Non-profit organizations have unique challenges with finite resources, leadership that wears many hats and the need to be responsible for several target groups of customers, the board, donors and regulators. David understands these challenges and gives you them in simple and understandable ways.

About Grantmakers Council of Rhode Island

The Grantmakers Council of Rhode Island (GCRI) was founded in 2003, as a network to support staff in donor organizations to maximize the efficiency of their philanthropic work. GCRI continues to offer capacity building, professional development and networking opportunities for staff in contributing roles, but has expanded to provide:

  • connection to national philanthropic resources;
  • opportunities for cooperation and cross-sectoral partnerships;
  • support for employee engagement and corporate social responsibility initiatives;
  • increased visibility and a focal point for the philanthropic sector; and
  • outreach activities to engage other organizations in the work of community investment.

In 2015, GCRI entered into a partnership with the United Way of Rhode Island, which significantly expanded GCRI’s capacity to support the philanthropic sector in the state, as well as provide additional resources and links to non-profit organizations engaged in community building work throughout Rhode Island. GCRI remains a separate 501 (c) 3, but our offices are located in the United Way building on Valley Street in Providence.
