The Government of Montana, Greg Gianforte, on Thursday signed bills that increase funeral benefits for those killed in a work accident from $ 4,000 to $ 10,000 and that could make student trainees eligible for workers' compensation.
H.B. 198, who overwhelmingly passed both the House and the Senate in February and March, says that "employees' reasonable funeral expenses" must not exceed the new maximum amount of $ 10,000.
The bill also maintains the current law on compensation to employees which states “payment is not part of the compensation that can be paid but is an advantage in addition to and separate from compensation. ”
Gov. Gianforte also signed H.B. 283, which states that a “primary or secondary student who does not receive a salary from the business partner or the educational institution where the student is enrolled is a volunteer and is covered by the provisions of (employees by law) for which they are provided. ”
The bill also states that“ the business partner and the educational institution shall mutually decide and agree in writing whether the business partner or the educational institution shall choose coverage for the student. ”
