Keep Your Kids Healthy | DM insurance

Children are natural bacterial magnets. It can be a challenge to keep them healthy during the best of times, let alone during a pandemic. If you are a parent with young children, the following tips can help you keep your children healthy, whether they are going to school or protecting at home.

Serve healthy meals and snacks

Good nutrition is the cornerstone of good health. Offer lots of protein, fruits and vegetables, whole grains and dairy products for calcium. Try to stay away from sugar and processed foods.

Keep them up to date on vaccinations

Vaccines can protect your children from diseases. No one likes to be stung in the arm with a needle, but it is much better than suffering from measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough or flu.

Give them probiotics daily

Probiotics are healthy bacteria that are especially good for digestive health. New research has found a possible link between probiotics and a stronger immune system. A healthier gut means a healthier body overall.

Make sure they get plenty of sleep

Sleep deprived children and adults are more susceptible to bacteria, viruses and diseases. Our bodies restore and repair themselves while we sleep. Children need more sleep than adults, and the younger they are, the more rest they need. Depending on age, their need for sleep can vary from nine to 14 hours per night.

Have them wash their hands often

Proper hand washing can help keep your children healthy. Let them scrub with soap and warm water when they come in from the outside, after using the bathroom and before eating. Hand sanitizer is not a substitute for hand washing. It should only be used when it is impossible for your children to wash their hands.

Let them wear a mask in public

Masks have become important accessories when we go to a store, a park or anywhere else near other people. Wearing a mask provides some protection against airborne viruses and bacteria. It can also help protect other people if you carry a contagious disease and are not aware of it.

Teach them to avoid sharing bacteria

Children should not share spoons, cups, straws, hats, play lip gloss or anything that comes in contact with the head, mouth or face. When your children get sick, keep them at home and away from other people.

Get them outdoors for a little exercise

Children need regular exercise to get their hearts pumping, boost their immune system and boost their mood. Spending time outdoors is great for kids. Outside games help sharpen their skills and increase fitness. Children who are physically active become healthy adults.

Help Your Kids Be Positive

Children are naturally more lively, enthusiastic and energetic than adults. Try to promote a positive state of mind. Elevated stress hormones reduce immunity. Studies have shown that poor emotional health can weaken the immune system and lead to disease.

Take them for regular check-ups

It is more important now than ever for children to visit the pediatrician regularly. If your child is to be checked in, do not postpone it. Talk to our friendly agent if you need help finding a health insurance plan for your family.
