Joan Schmit, professor of risk management and insurance at the University of Madison-Wisconsin, and Theresa Severson, vice president, insurance and risk, Kite Realty Group Trust, received the most prestigious honors during the awards luncheon at Riskworld on Monday.
Schmit was awarded the Harry and Dorothy Goodell Award by the Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc. The award recognizes an individual who has advanced the organization’s goals and the risk management discipline.
Severson was named Risk Manager of the Year for her work in risk management, including during her company’s merger process. She is credited with “navigating her organization through a very complex risk landscape while directly impacting the growth and opportunities of her company,”
; Jennifer Santiago, CEO of RIMS, said during the award ceremony.Other prizes and winners were:
- Risk Management Honor Roll: Ann Marie Bitta, head of global risk management at Abbot Laboratories.
- Rising Star Award: Emily Bloedel, manager, contracts and legal affairs, at Merrick & Co. and President of the RIMS Rocky Mountain Chapter.
- Risk Management Hall of Fame: retired risk managers Jim Green and Roger Andrews, and the late Dan Kugler.
- Ron Judd Heart of RIMS Award: Judy Silverman, a retired risk manager.
- Chapter of the Year: Upstate New York Chapter.
- Enhancing Chapter Outcomes Award: Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter, Rocky Mountain Chapter, Chicago Chapter and Saskatchewan Chapter.
RIMS also announced that next year it will introduce a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award, which will be presented at the 2024 Riskworld in San Diego.
