I will tell a simple story about me and my sock monkey hat. My friends know that I am not a hate person but there is a magic about this stocking paper that draws others in! It's silly and so cute that you have to smile when you see it. The hat is the perfect icebreaker and very memorable. People stop me when I wear it and say "cute hat" or "love the hat", once a lady pulled out her phone to show me pictures of her daughter in a hat just like mine.

So where am I going with all this … simple networking! Stop and think ̵

1; what do you do at networking events or new customer meetings to break the ice? Is it easy? Do you have a goal? Is it memorable? If not, stop reading this and go to Google. Do a picture search for Gordon Gee. When there is a picture where he is not wearing a tie. How many did you find? With the help of a fly he made himself identifiable and easily accessible.

Networking and branding can be so simple. They can fit into any budget and time allowance. On one occasion I attended the person who issued his number on the back of cards from a local cafe. It was an encouraging way to say that I want to know more about your company. Carrie once issued cookies at a Meetup that had information about her blog. Both of these situations get stuck in me as do countless others. The ideas are endless! Here's the challenge – at the next event you attend, you think of an excluded but easy way to engage others. Set a goal for how many new people you want to meet and stick to it! If you are struggling for an idea, let me know, maybe you can use my hat!

I LOVE marketing – whether through branding, networking or improving your business through signage, feel free to call me or connect on Facebook.
