How to ban your holiday home in winter: A step-by-step checklist.



When the colder weather sets in, it may be time to close your holiday home for the season. Being proactive in all parts of your property can protect your holiday home from low temperatures, wind, snow and ice that is coming. Use our step-by-step checklist for winter households to ensure that things are safe and ready for your family next spring.

Wintering indoors:

  • Have the heating system inspected and serviced.
  • Have the chimney inspected and cleaned if necessary.
  • Seal all gaps in the attic.
  • Wash bedding, bedding and towels. Store them in a covered container.
  • Remove food from home.
  • Clean all closets and cabinets. Wipe them and leave the doors open to prevent mold.
  • Clean and thaw refrigerators / freezers. Wipe them and leave the doors open.
