In 2008, Chris Paradiso and his wife, Mary Alice, were in a position that no parent would ever want to be in. with her to Connecticut Children & # 39 ;s Medical Center. Doctors found that she was suffering from a rare condition called serum sickness. As Mia recovers, Chris remembers walking the corridors of the hospital with her in her arms to put her to sleep. It was during these walks that Chris saw the large number of children in these rooms, who could not be at home and played like any other child their age. He immediately wanted to find a way to help them and give back to the hospital that saved his daughter's life.
And so it began …
With this began the program Reverse Trick-or-Treat. Every year from September to October, Paradiso Insurance collects donations within the community for these children who cannot go door to door for Halloween. Generous community members bring in coloring books, crayons, games and more for these kids, which we then take with them on Halloween.
We ask that this year, remember all children who can not participate. These kids will not be able to dress up as their favorite superhero or hope for sugar for the night, or run around with their friends walking from door to door collecting candy. We will be collecting donations at our office, 8 E. Main Street in Stafford Springs from now until the end of October.
What can you donate?
- Games – Who does not love a good board game? These timeless treasures can help keep a child entertained for hours while stuck in a hospital bed. From Monopoly to Hungry Hungry Hippos to Scrabble, all donations are kindly appreciated.
- Arts & Crafts – Many children simply love the opportunity to color! This therapeutic activity can help reduce the stress of the procedures and tests that these poor children undergo every day. All crayons, crayons, coloring books or markers can help a child feel a little better.
- Practical Activities- No one likes having to lie in bed all day. This is why activities like puzzles, Legos or jewelry kits can go a long way towards keeping kids busy and consciously sharp!
Remember: No candy or plush toys
We like to stay away from these as some nuts or chocolate may interfere with serious medical treatments; therefore, all forms of sweets are not allowed in the hospital. Because of this, we simply ask that you do not donate any consumables. We also try to avoid stuffed animals, as the fibers in the material can sometimes trigger allergies in patients.
At Paradiso Insurance, we know how important society is and how powerful it can be when people meet. Let's make a difference in these children's lives by giving them a reason to smile this Halloween.
