Get your ride on: May is National Bicycle Month

Keep the bike out of the basement or in the garage, since May is National Bicycle Month, sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in coastal to coastal communities. National Bicycle to Work Week 2019 will take place May 13-19. Bicycle to work day is Friday 17 May.

Cycling is a great way to experience outdoors and get good training. It is also a much more economical and earth-friendly form of perspiration than cars. Regardless of the reason you cycle, there are some important steps to take to make sure you are on the road.

Finally, do not forget to protect your investment! Bicycle theft can be covered by your homeowners or tenants insurance but it is usually a fairly high deductible. If your bike is particularly valuable, you may want to talk to your independent insurance agent about a floater policy to keep it covered at all times. In addition to a discussion on insurance, they suggest that you label your bike, write the serial number and take several pictures of it to help the police in the identification. They also recommend that you register your bike with the local police and the national bicycle register.
