Focus on "one word" the new year

Did you know that nine out of ten people will fail in their New Year's resolutions? 50% of decision makers will fail by the end of January. 2020 was a tough year in many different ways for everyone, so it is more important than ever to focus on positivity and hope for the coming year. Maybe it's time to stop making New Year's resolutions and focus on "one word" instead!

The book A Word That Will Change Your Life by Jon Gordon focuses on the idea of choosing a word to focus on as your driving force for the year. Instead of making a New Year's resolution (which no one seems to keep anyway), choose a word to live.

“A word creates clarity, power, passion and life change. The simple power of a word is that it affects all six dimensions of your life – mentally, physically, emotionally, relationally, spiritually and financially. Simply put, One Word sticks. There is a word that is meant for you and when you find it, live it and share it, your life will be more rewarding and exciting than ever. ” Getoneword.com

Sounds pretty awesome, right? As the end of the year approaches, instead of creating New Year's resolutions that are almost impossible to achieve, why not choose a word? It is important to choose only one so that you can focus on what it means to you. If you are struggling to find your word, here is a simple process I found at http://myoneword.org/pick-your-word/ to find your word.

  1. Decide what kind of person you want to be. [19659006] Identify the person's characteristics.
  2. Select a word.

For inspiration, here are some words that my co-workers and I considered or chose: joy, more, gratitude, progress, self-confidence, better, adaptability, hopeful, consistent, stable, quiet, disciplined, grace, patience, balance, learning , intentional, love, self-control, purpose, flexibility, perseverance and satisfaction.

Once you have chosen your word, you need a daily reminder of your word! You can create a painting with your word and hang it somewhere you see every day. Or find an image online of your word (I love searching Pinterest to find word images) and set it as your computer's desktop background.

I really believe in the power of Jon Gordon's "One Word". I think it simplifies your goals. Focus 2021 on one word and feel free to share your word in the comments below.
