Facebook may sue Israel's NSO for malware



(Reuters) – A US appellate court has ruled that Facebook could pursue a lawsuit accusing Israel's NSO group of exploiting a bug in its WhatsApp messaging app to install malware that allows surveillance of 1,400 people, including journalists, human rights activists [19659002] In a 3-0 decision on Monday, the Ninth U.S. District Court in San Francisco rejected the privately held NSO's claim that it was immune from being sued because it had acted as a foreign government agent.

Facebook, now known as Meta Platforms Inc., sued NSO for an injunction and damages in October 2019, accusing it of having access to WhatsApp servers without permission six months earlier to install its Pegasus malware on the victims' mobile devices.

NSO has claimed that Pegasus helps fight crime and intelligence services fight crime and protect national security.
