In Search after profit, the insurance companies have decimated their professional claims personnel. They laid off experienced staff and replaced them with young, untrained, unprepared people. A virtual clerk replaced the old professional damage handler.

Process and computers replaced practical human skill and judgment. Money was saved on the expenditure side of the business by paying lower salaries. Within three months of firing the experienced claims, people's gross profit increased. The auditors were satisfied. The quarterly profit increased. None of the happy people were insurance professionals. None of them understood how a professional claims adjuster saves the insurer by determining a reasonable amount of loss, avoiding payment for items that have not been lost or overvalued and by avoiding losses for which the insurance did not cover.

The promises of an insurance are kept by the professional the tortfeasor. It is cost-effective for long periods of time to have a professional complaint staff dedicated to excellence in claims handling. A professional and experienced adjuster will save the insurer millions by resolving disputes, paying claims that are due quickly and fairly, and thus avoiding litigation and claims for breach of contract and violations of the union of good faith and fair handling.

The professionals. The injured party is an important part of the insurer's defense against litigation from the insured against the insurer for breach of contract and bad faith. Non-life professionals solve more claims for less money without either party having to involve a lawyer. A satisfied claimant who is satisfied with the outcome of his or her claim will never sue the insurer. When an insurer compromises with the claims staff, the profit, no matter how small in the past, will quickly go into negative territory. Damages and punitive damages will drain the reserves. Insurance companies will quickly question why they write insurance. Those who remain in the insurance industry will either adopt a program that requires excellence in claims management from each member of their claims staff, or they will fail.

The claims department of an insurance company is the key to a successful insurance business. Each insurance promises the insured to replace and / or defend the insured or to pay to repair or replace real estate or personal property destroyed by a hazard insured against. It is the claims personnel who fulfill the promises made by the insurer when the insurance was sold. A claims department that provides excellent claims management satisfies the insured and gets the insured to tell their friends, neighbors and relatives about the quality of the insurer and thereby increase the insurer's sales and profits.
