From flashing lights to reindeer horns and a fluffy red nose on the front bumper, a car insurance price comparison company warns festive car drivers in the UK that such interiors can invalidate even car insurance.
As reported in The Press newspaper in York, USwitch said that some insurance companies may refuse to pay out claims if you are involved in an accident because decorating a car is considered a modification of the vehicle.
Decorations – and an accident – can also lead to an increase in car insurance premiums, the company said.
The Association of British Insurance Companies also weighed in: “Insurers do not want to play Scrooge, and the odd bit of glitter in your car will not invalidate your car insurance … But do not go overboard and do anything that may affect your safety, to such as decorations that can obstruct your vision, and always make sure that all decorations follow the law. If you are unsure of any changes, contact your insurer.
