Department of Labor to address long-term covid challenges in the workplace

The Office of Disability Employment Policy, the Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs and other departments under the U.S. Department of Labor on Tuesday announced plans to launch a “national online dialogue” to better understand the consequences of long-term covid in the workplace.

As part of the initiative, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the US Surgeon General are asking the public to provide ideas to better support long-term covid workers, their employees and their employers.

According to some estimates, one in five people infected with covid-19 in the United States may experience a wide range of symptoms for three months or more that include shortness of breath, fatigue, brain fog, palpitations, headaches, anxiety and depression, according to DOL.

More specifically, the DOL public seeks input on the challenges that workers face when dealing with symptoms and barriers to disability benefits.
