Laura Small started Safe & Sweet, York, PA's first keto-friendly bakery, after losing 100 pounds following a low-carb lifestyle. Safe & Sweet wants everyone to have their cake and eat it too, so the company offers healthier food options for all dietary choices, including vegan and dairy products.
As one of Keller-Brown's newest customers, we wanted to talk to Laura to learn more about her company and its good taste. Enjoy!
Laura: Before I started Safe & Sweet, I was a very medical, pre-diabetic patient for 10 years. I had been overweight and unhealthy for most of my life and really knew there had to be another way. I got an introduction to the keto lifestyle with high protein content, low carbohydrate content and saw results immediately. I quickly lost 100 kilos and completely got rid of my diabetics. I knew I had found the answer to the weight loss I was longing for, but quickly realized that it lacked a huge component. What were my candy options? From my kitchen, I started making keto-friendly versions of all my beloved goodies. When I started sharing them with family and friends, they were impressed with how good these candies could still be while being health sensitive.
Fast forward a year and a half and very hard work and commitment and we are now in a professional kitchen. Through many attempts and successes, Safe & Sweet grows and is happy to provide healthier treatment options to our customers so that they can still be pampered without overindulation. All our items are keto-friendly, diabetes-friendly and gluten-free.

Laura: Our chocolate peanut butter and raspberry truffles!
Keller-Brown: At Safe & Sweet you say you are motivated by a "mission of care". Tell me about it.
Laura: Our primary focus is to offer delicious high quality sweets to everyone regardless of dietary needs. Our sweets have no effect on a person's glycemic index. Our nut flours are grain-free and do not cause inflammation. We are not only adapted for keto – our sweet candies are also good for people who follow a paleodiet. The whole foods we use in each recipe are also a wonderful option for diabetics and people with celiac disease. We are happy to offer nut-free, dairy products and vegan alternatives.

Keller-Brown: Why is commercial insurance important for small businesses?
Laura: It's important to be protected and prepared for anything. Many unexpected things can happen in business, just like in life.
Keller-Brown: Why did you decide to become a Keller-Brown customer?
Laura: Melissa Yealy helped me sell a property. and we started talking about how she sold insurance too. There was no point in becoming a Keller-Brown customer and the process was super smooth.
Keller-Brown: What other local businesses do you want to support?
Laura: Molly & # 39 ;s Courtyard Cafe in downtown York and Leg Up Farmers Market are two of my favorites.
