Conducting a life insurance medical examination under COVID-19

You can complete the medical examination part of your life insurance application without sacrificing security or convenience.

Applying for life insurance? Taking a medical examination is often a critical step in your journey towards securing affordable life insurance. After all, it is often required for medically drawn policies and can usually save money on premiums.

But as you might expect, getting a personal examination during the global COVID-19 pandemic is a little … different. First of all, the demand for life insurance and other property planning products is high – apparently, something like a global pandemic makes people think about their own mortality and their financial condition. Second, people have posted their exams, either for security reasons (they avoid personal interactions) or for … other reasons. (They do not want to wear a mask or are busy with their children at home.)

To better understand what the experience is like and to show Haven Life's commitment to keeping you both safe and covered during the ongoing pandemic, we spoke to three real customers who purchased life insurance under COVID-19. Each of them told us that their graduation experience was comfortable and safe, as much as it could have been during normal times. Their reviewers took all necessary measures to minimize the risk of coronavirus transmission. This includes wearing a mask and gloves and meeting them at the location of their choice, such as their home, where they could handle the security conditions.

Here are some more takeaways from these important conversations.

In this article:

Scheduling is a breeze

Anyone who has tried to buy, say, an inflatable pool or a bicycle (not to mention toilet paper or hand sanitizer), knows that supply and demand right now are Hard looking wack and waiting times can be extensive for even the most basic goods and services. But if you are wondering if this applies to scheduling your medical examination, do not be afraid: Just like before, it is easy to schedule an examination for the time and place you choose.

As JC of Utah, who had his examination at a medical facility in April, told us, "I wish my regular doctor was as comfortable."

Safety is paramount

As part of our civic duty to flatten the curve, we take all precautions to minimize our risk of transmitting the disease: wearing masks, restricting our travels, working from home whenever possible. Suffice it to say that those who have the task of protecting our safety are doing everything they can, whether they are front-line healthcare workers or medical examiners. (We work with experts from third-party exam administration at ExamOne.) Your examiner will wear a mask and gloves and will not report working primarily if they experience symptoms.

The same JC mentioned above had her appointment in April, at which time the whole country was basically. She was happy to find her examiner who wears a mask and follows all protocols. Her experience is a reminder of why you take the exam in the first place. "I had learned a lot from my examination that I had not received before from my regular doctors," she says. “So it was worth every minute of it to me. It bound in things that I needed to take care of. More specifically, she discussed a kidney problem and the fact that she was pre-diabetic. After graduating, she changed her diet and has since lost five kilos. (Sorry folks, we can not guarantee similar results for everyone.)

Convenience is still a priority

Let's say you're a working parent. You probably spend every waking time in your home trying to juggle conference calls to keep your kids fed / safe / entertained. It's not easy, and it may feel like the last thing you need is to introduce another element to the chaos.

But here's the thing. When you are ready to get a life insurance policy – and help financially protect your loved ones for the next 10 to 30 years – a certain sense of urgency kicks in. Waiting until the pandemic has passed – and at the moment there is no end to sight – is not a viable option. But while your daily situation can be stressful, it's not something a medical examiner has seen before.

Issue? Maria G. from the District of Columbia, whose three young children did not intend to let a small thing like a medical examination stop them from spending time with her. "The nurse was very patient," says Maria, who had her meeting at the end of March. "I had all three children at home and my three-year-old kept finding us and wanted to sit on my lap during the blood pressure test."

Despite what could have been a stressful situation, Maria found the reviewer helped her stay cool. "I usually don't like medical appointments," she says. “I get stressed and nervous. Having the calm feeling is absolutely necessary for everyone who does it. [examiner] who came out and handled the appointment was really good and then followed up to make sure I knew how to get my results.

Think about where we are now and then think about where we were in February or even the beginning of March. The word coronavirus was new and new, but not completely unknown. that the summer of the Olympics could be postponed, and fears that the virus could spread to the United States. Large technology conferences were interrupted, while some large gatherings were not. For the average person, it seemed likely that coronavirus would come to the United States and that life would be strange. But it also seemed like we were playing our cards right, things can come back to normal during the summer.

Of course it did not turn out, and it's a reminder that none of us know what may be on the horizon. And that it financially protects your loved ones from the unexpected only makes sense. For Jonathan W. from Los Angeles, it was a feeling that it was the right choice to get the exam in February. There was a risk then – the first American cases were in January – but he suspected that the risk would only increase. "We were aware of what was happening with the coronavirus, so it was good to have a little extra peace of mind," says Jonathan.

The same thing applies today. As painful as the virus has already been, and as hopeful as we all are that a vaccine is coming soon, the reality is that no one really knows what's coming next. This is one of the reasons why you get a lifetime insurance in the first place. And just as the best time to get it is when you are young and healthy – your prices will be lower, and you will get the peace of mind that coverage provides right away – it's also smart to get it essential as soon as you are capable.

At Haven Life, our simple goal is to make life insurance easy. One of the ways we do this is to continue to provide simple and practical medical degrees. After all, so many things in the world are on hiatus right now due to the coronavirus pandemic. Your family's security and your peace of mind should not be among them.
