If it is an organization in the windy, snow-laden north that knows sliding and falling on ice is a painful and costly affair, then it is a workers' compensation.
Portland, Maine-based MEMIC Group announced on Friday that they will provide each employee with a pair of K1 Ice Cleats to prevent slipping, tripping and falling.
“We recommend this clamp to our policyholders as the simplest and most effective tool to prevent slipping, tripping and falling during the winter months. We decided that we ourselves should "go for a walk" in a safe way, so we have offered a couple of blocks to everyone at MEMIC, says Karl Siegfried, senior vice president of loss control at the insurance company for employee compensation, in a statement. "We want to protect our team members from injuries as much as our policyholders' employees." Atlantic states, where icy conditions are a major contributor to work-related injuries, according to the statement.
"Outdoor parking lots, bricks and stairs are particularly dangerous and often do not reveal their icy conditions until you have slipped," says Siegfried. A slip, whether you actually fall or not, can lead to sprains, strains and torn tissue. These injuries often lead to lost time from work.
