CNA Financial Corp. said on Tuesday that it has been the target of a "sophisticated cyber security attack." including company email. "
The insurer alerted law enforcement and brought in a team of third-party forensic experts to investigate and determine the full extent of the incident," the statement said.
"Out of an abundance of caution, we have disconnected our systems from our network, which continues to operate," the statement said.
The insurer has provided employees with solutions "where possible," CNA said. Insurers said they will notify their policyholders and policyholders if they determine that the event has affected its data.
The attack is the second recent cybercrime at a major insurance-related company in the Chicago area. In September, Gallagher Bassett Services Inc., the damage management unit for Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., reported a ransomware attack.
