For the third year in a row, California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara issued a moratorium on homeowners insuring non-renewal coverage for certain residential property insurance issues that are in zip codes or adjacent to zip codes that keep out devastating forest fires. The moratorium on cancellation of these insurances applies to both accepted and non-accepted insurance companies. The location of qualified zip codes is determined by the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, along with Governor Newsom & # 39 ;s Office of Emergency Services. The moratorium follows Governor Newsom's announcement of a state of emergency in several counties destroyed by the Dixie Fire and Beckwourth fire.
Dixie Fire is an active fire burning through four counties, including Lassen County, one of the county governors Newsom. declared state of emergency for. The Dixie fire started in July and is now the largest single wildfire in the state's history, causing smoke, soot and ash to spread across the western United States.
The moratorium is retroactive to 1
The California Insurance Commissioner continues to protect California property owners from insurance companies that seek to avoid properly protecting California residents.
