I'm sure most of us agree that spring is such a beautiful time of year! More sunny days, warmer weather, flower buds starting to appear … and SPRING CLEANING. Who has already started their cleaning tasks in the spring? It's a great feeling to do and get ready, right?)
For businesses, this is a great time of year to plan your upcoming preventative maintenance activities. After all, why not get started with the "to do" items that can sometimes creep up during the winter months and pose potential risks or dangers?
Take advantage of the ever-improving weather and look around your business to see if you have any of the following areas that may have been worn, damaged, or in need of repair or replacement:
- Sidewalks, steps, and parking lots.
- Roof and gutter systems (See commercial roof maintenance for roofing and guidelines and checklist).
- Patios, outdoor furniture, awnings or coverings.
- Playgrounds, tennis courts and other recreational areas.
- Trees, landscape architecture and irrigation.
One of the best ways to prevent injuries, damage or a potential insurance loss is to conduct regular visual inspections. When inspecting your premises, note any damage or problems, make the necessary repairs yourself or hire a professional and then perform continuous preventive maintenance as needed. Check if your insurance company has a special loss control department that can provide you with resources and personnel that can help your business with industry-specific inspections and maintenance programs.
As the old saying goes, “Spring has come! “I encourage you to take action and join us in making this a safe and profitable season.
