Berkshire promotes Browne to vice chief underwriter

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Co. on Thursday named Hilary Browne to the newly created role of deputy global chief underwriting officer.

Dublin-based Browne was previously global chief underwriting officer, accident and health care and deputy head of Europe at the specialty insurer. She joined the company in 2019 from American International Group Inc.

Her European responsibilities will pass to Alessandro Cerase, who was recently appointed head of Europe, and she will remain responsible for global casualty and medical underwriting, Berkshire Hathaway said in a statement.

In his new role, Browne will also be responsible for the insurer’s global casualty and health, multinational insurance and support and insurance affairs, the statement said.

In addition, Sydney-based Cameron Holmes was named global underwriting officer, property for energy and construction at the insurer. Previously, he was head of real estate technology lines in Australia.
