London-based special insurance company Beazley PLC on Wednesday said it has developed a marine protection policy that protects ship owners and operators from physical damage and loss of rent if a cyber attack hits a ship's operating system.
Limitations of up to $ 50 million for physical injury and $ 5 million for rental loss are available, said a spokeswoman in Beazley in an email.
The coverage, called Beazley Cyber Defense for Marine, includes a series of risk management services designed to mitigate the cyber threat and to ensure that shipowners and operators comply with forthcoming guidelines for the International Maritime Organization, Beazley said in a statement.
