5 Ways to Avoid Parking Lot Fender Benders in New England
Parking lots in Boston MA – we love the convenience but hate the frustrations, especially when people speed, back out of spaces without looking, and otherwise model bad parking behavior.
That behavior just happens to be the cause of many doors and irritated drivers. Even worse, careless behavior can cause a collision or injury. So let’s all slow down and follow these five tips to make parking lots safer for everyone:
- Speed does not
Speed reduces the time you have to react when a child runs out in front of you, another driver stops suddenly, or a car starts reversing unexpectedly. Is a collision—or even a fatality—worth the price of getting to your destination just a little earlier? - Use your eyes – and mirrors and cameras
Be on the lookout for danger at all times, even if the lot seems empty. When you pull into a location, watch for doors to open. When reversing, look around you, in your mirrors and in your reversing camera and proceed slowly. - Give yourself – and others – some space
Parking between the lines and in a spot that is adapted to your vehicle can help minimize scratches and scuffs. Better yet, park in a less crowded area and enjoy the walk into the store – just don̵7;t park where you feel unsafe. And always park away from stray carts. - Expect the unexpected
Guess things will happen. That someone will throw themselves out in front of you, that a cart will come rolling towards you, that someone backing out of their seat won’t see you backing out of yours. When you are on guard, you are better prepared for those who are not. - Show respect
A little kindness goes a long way in a parking lot or parking garage. So, stop for pedestrians, don’t cause traffic jams while waiting for a seat and, above all, don’t lose your cool.
