Apple sues NSO Group and says that US citizens were targets

(Reuters) – Apple Inc. said on Tuesday that it has filed a lawsuit against the Israeli cyber company NSO Group Technologies and its parent company OSY Technologies SARL for alleged surveillance and targeting of US Apple users with its Pegasus spyware. [19659002] The iPhone maker said it was also trying to ban the NSO Group from using Apple's software, services or devices to prevent further abuse.

Apple is the latest in a series of companies and governments to come after the NSO, which has said that they only sell its products to law enforcement and intelligence agencies and take action to curb abuse. Earlier this month, US officials placed the company on a blacklist for trade. NSO has also been met with either legal action or criticism from Microsoft Corp, Meta Platforms Inc., Alphabet Inc. and Cisco Systems Inc.

NSO is alleged to be involved in circumventing the security of products manufactured by these companies and selling that circumvention in the form of hacking tools to foreign governments.

In its complaint filed with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, Apple said the NSO's tools were used in "coordinated efforts in 2021

to target and attack Apple customers. "and that" U.S. citizens have been monitored by NSO's spyware on mobile devices that can and may cross international borders. "

Apple said the NSO group created more than 100 fake Apple ID user credentials to carry out its attacks. Catalog
