  1. To understand the tort law applicable in the state where the adjuster operates.
  2. To understand the contract law as applied in the state where the adjuster works.
  3. Understand sufficient medical terminology to be able to evaluate claims.
  4. Understand the costs of repairing or replacing damaged real estate or personal property.
  5. To understand how to read and apply the terms of a liability insurance to a particular factual situation developed by his or her investigation.
  6. To understand how to thoroughly examine all claims assigned.
  7. To conduct an investigation of any claim for damages awarded justly and in good faith with the intention of finding cover for the loss which the insured exhibits. asserted against an insured.
  8. To ensure that the insurer immediately pays all claims owed by the insurer under the contract.
  9. To oppose, and recommend against payment of all claims. the insurer is not liable under the insurance contract.

This Compact Book of Adjusting Liability Claims-Third Edition is designed to give the new adjuster a basic foundation in what it takes to become a competent and effective liability insurance adjuster. It is also designed to serve as a refresher for the experienced adjuster.

The adjuster must be prepared to show empathy but not sympathy while professionally investigating a claim for damages. In addition, the adjuster must be able to save the feelings of the injured party and the insured, explain why it was appropriate in the law and the insurance to pay, or not pay, the injured party and that a settlement is in the interests of both. the insured and the insurer represented by the adjuster.
