5 things to do in each room.

Whether you are bringing a baby home or planning to take care of one for a family member or friend, it is important to protect your home.

When it comes to baby protection tips and safety, you know the basics. You lock and lock the cabinets and drawers and make sure that no medicines or chemicals are accessed. You install safety gates safely in front of stairs and cover electrical outlets. But believe it or not, these measures are just the beginning.

To make sure your home is ready for your family’s latest addition, go room by room and implement our baby protection tips.

Kitchen

  1. Move all magnets to the top of the refrigerator or remove them completely.
  2. Disconnect unused appliances. Double check that the cords are hidden and do not hang on the ground within reach of your child.
  3. Remove any kitchen towels from the oven door. If your child pulls on them, the door can open and pose a great danger.
  4. Cover the knobs on your stove, especially if they are just above the oven door.
  5. Move dishes off the floor and out of reach when your pet has finished eating.

Living room

  1. Attach the TV to the entertainment stand or mount it on the wall so that it is more stable and secure.
  2. Mount bookshelves on the wall so that they do not tip over if your child pulls on or climbs on one. Store the heaviest items on the lowest shelves for increased stability.
  3. Make sure that all breakable objects and indoor plants are out of reach.
  4. Cover sharp corners with padded covers.
  5. Keep cables out of reach.

Bathroom

  1. Set your water heater to a temperature below 1
    20 degrees.
  2. Add non-slip strips or a non-slip mat to the bottom of your tub to stop slips and falls.
  3. Keep the hookah covered with something soft so that it is not a danger.
  4. Lay down the toilet seat and secure it with a lock.
  5. Think of a child-proof trash can so that things that are thrown away are not easy to access.
  6. Keep all prescriptions, medicines and dental hygiene products out of reach.

Nursery

  1. Place the crib on a wall where windows and blinds (including their cords) are out of reach.
  2. Remove any wall decoration above the crib or changing table. These can be reduced or pose a risk of falling.
  3. Attach the furniture to the wall so that they sit securely and do not tip over.
  4. Install a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector just outside your child’s bedroom, or inside the room depending on your building’s guidelines.
  5. Add non-slip pillows to the bottom of rugs to keep them in place.
