3 Money-saving car insurance tools

If you have a car (and you don't live in Virginia or New Hampshire), you are legally required to carry car insurance. Insurance is a layer of financial protection against the unknown and you will be glad you have it if you end up in an accident. However, paying high premiums is not something to love, though. The good news is that a number of online resources can help you save on car insurance.

If you're about better car insurance, consider giving one of these three tools a try.

Online price collection tool

1. Credit Karma

For many consumers, Credit Karma is a good place for free credit or credit counseling. You may be surprised to know that you can also use the site to investigate car insurance. The company recently launched its car insurance market tool, which allows you to compare car insurance rates.

It works like this: the tool analyzes government data on drivers and vehicles, as well as data from credit bureaus and public insurance rates to give you a list of custom insurance proposals.

I logged into my Credit Karma account and uploaded my vehicle's make and model details to check my car insurance. You can also get a short list of insurers to consider by studying your marital status, age, sex, zip code and estimated credit score.

A cool login feature is that you can see your car insurance credit and an estimate of how much you can save by changing insurance companies. You can also see your vehicle's estimated resale value and any outstanding recall notice for your car's make and model type.

2nd Zebra

Zebra offers car insurance options "in black and white" (they do it obviously), and they claim to be the most comprehensive place to get car insurance quotas around. Getting a quote is easy. You start by entering your postal code and then answering some questions about your car, driving habits and current coverage.

The process of getting a quote is a bit involved, but in a few minutes I had quotes from nine car insurance companies. The Zebrab crime cites down into four categories depending on how much coverage you need and want: Minimum, Basic, Better and Best. In these categories, my starting rates ranged from $ 34 to $ 74, which in the high end is what I already pay for car insurance.

The tool also showed me seven car insurance discounts that I potentially qualify for, along with an insurance capability score, based on factors such as home ownership, record driving, and educational levels. Zebra allows you to use different discounts to filter through your car insurance quote results and drill down to the policy that looks like your best personal fit.

Overall, the site is very comprehensive, comparing quotes from over 200 insurers nationwide. And it gave me several options to be able to save money on car insurance that I might not have considered if I acted for coverage on my own.

3rd Clearcover

Clearcover is an insurtech startup that uses artificial intelligence technology to provide smarter car insurance. The company's focus is on helping car insurance customers find the absolute cheapest prices without obscuring the coverage.

You can apply for coverage and buy online in just minutes. Clearcover is not yet available in my home country, so I couldn't get a car insurance quote but I learned a few things about how the company works.

First, Clearcover offers the same type of insurance you found with traditional insurance companies. It includes liability, liability and collision coverage. But you can also get some supplements that you do not find with all other insurers. For example, you can add a national declaration that covers you when running for a ridesharing service such as Uber or Lift.

Second, low cost is really the first priority of Clearcover. The company works with cost efficiency in mind to help its customers get the lowest possible prices and only pay for the coverage they really need.

Third, Clearcover clarifies a customer-friendly user experience. You can view your policy and file requirements through the Clearcover mobile app to get things moving as soon as possible after an unfortunate event.

How often should you shop for car insurance?

These three tools make finding cheaper car insurance easy, but it asks how often should you look for a better deal?

I have had the same car insurance for the past four years and I have not considered any other insurer during that time. According to some experts, this may be a mistake. They propose comparison shopping for car insurance at least once a year, if not every six months.

Why? Because you may be able to save on car insurance if:

  • Traffic violations or tickets have fallen away from your driving register.
  • Insurance companies have lowered their prices across the board.
  • A new insurance company appears to offer lower
  • Your credit score has improved.
  • You have had a birthday or added another year to your post.
  • Your vehicle has been depreciated in value.
  • Your driving habits have changed and you are "
  • You have bought a home.

All of these scenarios can entitle you to discounts or lower premiums on car insurance, so it is worth spending an hour or so was sixth month to check available prices.

When shopping, pay attention to the coverage offered and the insurer's reputation in addition to price quotations, landing a better price on car insurance and saving money is a no-brainer, but it is also important to be covered by a reputable company and avoiding sacrificing important political benefits
